Because the session is short and you are not meeting with your dedicated advisor or success navigator, walk-in sessions cannot assist with long term planning, academic success planning, transfer questions, and other in-depth services that are offered during appointments with your dedicated advisor or success navigator.
This, in fact, is part of what academic advisers can do and were available to do. While some students needed to contact mental health services or wanted to maintain their relationship with clubs and other co-curricular groups, they all had to be in touch with their advisers as they dealt with the myriad issues confronting them.

On July 13, Collin College campuses opened on a limited basis to students enrolled in the second summer session and to others on an appointment basis. At this time, we are encouraging students to connect with us virtually. To schedule an appointment, please contact your major advising office.

BearTrax is new student orientation for new-to-college students, and advising takes place for them during this session. Email the student an agenda of objectives to complete during the appointment.

A proposal: rather than multiply the number of people on campuses who are part of the student success initiative, higher education should consolidate the work of mentors, academic coaches and career counselors under one academic advising umbrella.
